# Create and publish your banner

The banner editor shows a live preview as you go. Pick its look, choose your notice and purposes, set how long a visitor's choice lasts, and publish.

## Before you start

Your banner asks about your published purposes and links to your published notice, so publish both first. See [Add your banner's purposes](https://www.complyzero.com/docs/website-consent/add-your-banners-purposes) and [Write your privacy notice](https://www.complyzero.com/docs/website-consent/write-your-privacy-notice).

## Design and publish

### 1. Open the editor

Open **Consent Banner**. If you've started a banner, it opens straight in the editor. The preview on the right updates as you go.

### 2. Choose the look

On **Appearance**, pick a theme and where the banner sits on the page. Your brand colour goes on the buttons and switches.

### 3. Choose what it asks

On **Content & Languages**, choose your notice and the purposes visitors are asked about, with the descriptions you wrote. When everything is in place, the editor says **Ready to publish**. The **Choices** tab in the preview shows exactly what visitors will see.

### 4. Set how long a choice lasts

**Consent expiry** is how long the banner remembers a visitor's choice before it asks again, for example 180 days.

### 5. Publish

Select **Save & Publish**. You see a summary: the purposes, your notice, where the banner goes live and how long a choice is remembered. Tick the box and publish.

### 6. Copy the code

Open **Embed**, copy the snippet and add it as the first script in your website's `<head>` on every page. **Check installation** then tells you it's working. See [Install the banner](https://www.complyzero.com/docs/website-consent/install-the-banner).

> **What visitors get**
> The banner holds back optional cookies, and the tools that set them, until a visitor chooses. Their choice applies the moment they click, and ComplyZero keeps a record of it.

## Video transcript

Now the banner itself. Open Consent Banner. I've already started one here, so it goes straight to the editor. The preview on the right updates as you go. Pick a theme and where it sits on the page. Your brand colour goes here. Buttons and switches use it. On Content and Languages, you choose your notice, and the purposes visitors are asked about. Here that's Analytics, Functional and Marketing, with the descriptions you wrote. And it says Ready to publish. The Choices tab in the preview shows exactly what visitors will see. Consent expiry is how long the banner remembers someone's choice before it asks again. I've set it to 180 days. When it looks right, Save and Publish. You get a summary: the purposes, your notice, where it goes live, and how long a choice is remembered. Tick the box, and publish. Last thing. Embed. Copy this snippet, and add it as the first script in your site's head, on every page. Then Check installation tells you it's working.
